Fresh tracks for France - A million of us are set to slope off to the French Alps
WINTER just gets better and better. Snow has been falling in the Alps in bucketloads over the past month ? and now there's lots of sunshine too, making the early ski season one of the best in decades according to the Ski Club of Great Britain. All good news for the million or so Britons due to make tracks to France for their long-awaited week among the white stuff.
With fresh powder arriving daily and snowguns a'blazing, France remains our favourite skiing destination by far, especially for mixed ability groups and more experienced skiers and snowboarders.
And that's thanks to a slalom of advantages that's keeping the country in pole position. For a start, massive recent investment means France has got seriously BIG ski areas. There are 650kms of piste (and 200 lifts) in the Three Valleys (Courchevel, Meribel, Val Thorens), 425kms in Paradiski ( Les Arcs, 425 kms in Paradiski (Les Arcs, Pesiey, La Plagne) and 300 kms at Espace Killy (Val d'Isere and Tignes).

The Three Valleys alone is the size of the six largest North American resorts put together and just one ski pass gives access to a mind-boggling choice of runs for all levels, from glacier blacks to wide open, tree-lined blues.

The French Tourist Board says that snow is guaranteed in many of the 100 or so French Alpine ski resorts until mid-May, with 75 per cent of slopes groomed daily.

And new technologically advanced lift systems now whisk skiers to the vast, clearly marked ski terrain, making lift lines less of an issue.

В Грузии устанавливают инфраструктуру для 10 новых канатных дорог на горнолыжных трассах.

После 30-летней паузы горнолыжная трасса Митарби, расположенная в поселке Бакуриани (регион Самцхе-джавахети), в этом году обретет новую жизнь и вновь примет посетителей.

В настоящее время установка трех канатных дорог, которые смогут подниматься на высоту 2300 метров над уровнем моря, почти завершена.

На данном этапе на зимних курортах Грузии идет строительство 10 новых канатных дорог. К началу зимнего сезона, помимо трех канатных дорог в Митарби, начнут функционировать четыре новые подъемника на горнолыжной трассе в Тетнулди (Самегрело – Земо Сванети) и три в Гудаури (Мцхета – Мтианети).

Для развития инфраструктуры на зимних курортах Грузии правительство планирует потратить 170 миллионов лари (около 72 миллионов долларов).

В Бакуриани также идет обустройство трассы для биатлона с олимпийскими стандартами. На это правительство выделило 796 500 лари (около 340 тысяч долларов).

В правительстве Грузии уверены, что данная инфраструктура привлечет больше посетителей не только зимой, но и в течение всего года, поскольку потребность тренироваться на трассе для биатлона есть круглый год.
